PHOTOGRAPHERS X-CHANGE
Overview
The BNG BLK Photographer X-Change is an international cultural and artistic exchange led by the Erik James Montgomery Foundation in partnership with WATU MOJA. Rooted in photography, community, and shared history, this initiative connects Black image-makers across the African Diaspora through immersive, relationship-centered experiences. Launching in 2026, the X-Change will bring photographers from Africa to Camden, New Jersey, and Camden-based artists to Johannesburg, South Africa—creating a two-way bridge of creativity, learning, and cultural dialogue.
Phase One | Spring 2026 – Camden, NJ
During Black History Month’s 100th Anniversary, selected African photographers will participate in a residency in Camden, culminating in a public exhibition at JPEG Photo Gallery. Artists will engage with local communities, universities, and cultural institutions through talks, workshops, and collaborative programming.
Phase Two | Summer 2026 – Johannesburg, South Africa
Camden-based photographers will travel to South Africa for a guided residency focused on cultural immersion, artistic exchange, and relationship-building within the region’s vibrant creative ecosystem.
Each phase is supported by cultural liaisons and community partners to ensure the exchange is grounded in shared context, mutual respect, and meaningful dialogue.
